Blackjack Rules Variations to be aware of

Play BlackjackNo matter where you are playing, online or at a casino, you need to know the rules of each game. It is very important to know the rules at the blackjack table because they can vary based on the casino you are playing at. If you do not know the blackjack rules variations you are putting yourself at a disadvantage from the start. When you do that you are harming your chance of success.

Here are a few rules variations that you may face:

1. Dealer stands on hard 17. This is the most common type of blackjack, so it is the one that you should get most used to. With this rule in place, the dealer will stand as soon as he gets a hand of 17 or higher without an ace.

2. Dealer stands on soft 17. If the dealer has 17 or better, with an ace, he will stand. It is better for the player than when the dealer hits on a soft 17.

3. Dealer hits on soft 17. Since this rule is not used at most casinos you do not want to spend too much time on it. That being said, it is important to know what it entails in case you ever face it. If the dealer is holding a soft 17 with this rule in place, he must hit. The dealer will stand on a hard 17. While this may not seem like a huge deal, it gives the house a slightly better advantage.

4. Doubling. This is a popular decision amongst players because it can help them to increase winnings. Some casinos allow doubling whereas others prohibit it. This is one of those rules variations that you have to be aware of because it can work in your favor. With a double down you are essentially doubling your bet and receiving only one more card.

Players should always know the rules of the blackjack table before they sit down. Most of the time you are going to find that the dealer stands on hard 17. From there, you can get down to business. But remember, there are casinos that play other variations, such as those detailed above. In that case you need to adjust your strategy to ensure that you are on the right page.

Blackjack is one of the only games in which the player and casino are pretty much evenly matched. But if you do not know the rules you are giving a lot of power to the casino when you should be keeping it for yourself.
