Blackjack Card and Hand Values

Play BlackjackAs a beginning blackjack player the more you are willing to learn the better off you will be. To start, you need to become familiar with the blackjack card values and the blackjack hand values. This is a basic part of learning the game of blackjack, and something you will always remember. To go along with this, the suit does not matter when playing blackjack. For example, the Queen of spades has a value of 10 as does the Queen of hearts, clubs, and diamonds.

Your one and only goal is to receive a point total higher than the dealers without going over 21. If you are successful in making this happen you will come out a winner. Receiving a total of more than 21 is known as going bust, or busting. Your blackjack hand value is simply all of the cards in your hand added together.

Now for information on the value of the cards. The Ace is worth either 11 points or 1 point; the choice is yours. It is good to receive an Ace because it makes it easier for you to avoid busting.

The face cards hold a value of 10. They include the Jacks, Queens, and Kings. Every other card in the decks, two through ten, is worth the number that you see on the card. For instance, a five is worth five, a ten is worth ten and so on.

Which cards are most important? This question is one that is always disputed by experienced blackjack players. Most believe that the 10’s are the most important cards in a game of blackjack. The main reason for this is that there are more 10’s available than any other value. In a 52 card deck, there are 16 cards with a value of 10. When compared to the other cards in which there are only four of each, it is easy to see why the 10’s are usually considered the most important to a blackjack player.

Additionally, if you want to get blackjack or 21 on the button, it is easiest to do so using the 10’s.

The four 5 value cards are also very important to your success as a blackjack player. You want to avoid these cards because they make it easier for you to bust. Believe it or not, if all four 5’s were removed from a standard deck of cards the house would lose their advantage and the player would immediately improve their chance of winning.

To become a good blackjack player you need to learn all you can about card and hand values. Once you have this knowledge it becomes easier for you to not only play, but to also win at the blackjack tables.
